Does 1080p hurt gaming performance on laptop?

I was debating between getting the $800 model and the $950 model because the more expensive model has 1080p and 16GB SSD which I heard helps the laptop run better (on a side note also heard it doesn't really help, any thoughts on this).

Anyways about the 1080p my friend said if I want to do gaming that it will be better to get the 1366x768 instead because the 1080p hurts gaming performance.. thoughts please?

it will hurt your gaming if your gpu can't handle 1080p.. anyways you can always resize resolution when you are gaming so that you can get more fps..

SSD will really help, boot time, loading time, file copying, etc2..

Get the $950 model if you can afford it without any problems.

The higher the resolution you want to play games at, the more demanding it will be on your graphics card. Also the higher you set the graphic quality to, the more demanding it will be as well.

For 1080p on a laptop I recommend getting at least a GTX 660m or a Radeon HD 7850m if you want high graphic quality settings and good frame rates. You can read about those cards in the following links:

I would actually get the $1,000 IdeaPad Y580 which comes with 1080p and the GTX 660m.

I'd get the $950 laptop with 1080p resolution.

Don't forget. You can always reduce the resolution when you are playing a game, if you need to.

So do you think the gpu on the y500 isn't good enough to get the 1080p on it?

If you click on the link for the nVidia GTX 660m review that I provided in one of my posts above you can see how much more performance you can get over the GTX 650m. Simply scroll down to the section where there are game benchmarks, then click "Compare" to see how it performs against other cards. For $50 more I would go for the Y580. The Y500 is still good, but that extra $50 will get you better performance.

If keyboard backlight is more important to you than better performance, then go with the Y500.

Lastly, if you really have made multiple posts about the same topic then many people will not like that since it is known as spamming. It is against forum policy and if done often enough, then people will just ignore your posts. Abusive spamming can result in someone submitting a request to the mods to terminate your account.
