Does a audio splitter help ?

I just bought a sony MDR-1A and it has a cable with built-in microphone in it, the problem is on pc there's separate audio jack, 1 for headphone and 1 for microphone, when i plug it onto the headphone hole, only the headphone works and when i plug it into the microphone hole, the headphone speaker act as the microphone, not the microphone in the cable itself.

i tried to plug it into a laptop with single audio jack and both works wonders.

i tried searching online and came up with this

does this splitter help both microphone and headphone to works ? i'm afraid that it makes the headphone speaker act as both speaker and microphone.
