Hello, I need some help with recording minidisc onto my dell XPS 170. I am using Audacity which I purchased (not realising that I could get a free download) and I do believe that I'm setting everything up as per the instructions but I am unable to get any recordings to work. I 'm using mini stereo jack from the minidisc player to mini stereo jack to mic input on the Dell. I just get an increasing blue wave form and I have to put the volume to off. I have tried reducing the volume on the minidisc player....still nothing. So out of curiosity I disconnected the minidisc player just to see what would happen, and I get exactly the same result without connecting any device to the computer. Just a mass of blue screen and crackling noise. I read somewhere that this particular computer is not able to use a mic, despite having a mic input. Is there perhaps an internal switch somewhere to enable a line in? Unfortunately I have mislaid (temporarily I hope) the Dell manual. Any help would be gratefully appreciated, and am sorry to have written a book. Many thanks in advance. Tony.

Assuming your on Windows 7.
Click start,
type Manage Audio Devices
Click on it.
Go to recordings, see if the correct device is enabled (if it isn't right click and click enable...)

Where did you buy Audacity from?!
It may be a scam... Scan for viruses...

Try recording with the default Sound Recorder (Start, type Sound Recorder) See if any is audible then...

And more importantly, delete the version you bought and download the one online...
