Please keep it to 1 thread.
Hi there,

I'm about to buy a new laptop which is mainly going to be used for Windows office tasks and maybe some older games (Hunter call in the wild, COD, etc). But to be honest, I haven't played any games since our son was born a year and a half ago ;-)

We're going to sell our old notebook and want to buy a new notebook back. I try to do at least 8 years with my notebook.

Since it's Black Friday I came around 2 interesting deals. Hope you can help me to choose which one would be the best choise for my situation:
  1. Acer Nitro 5 i5-12500h with rtx3060, 16 GB DDR4 3200, 512GB, 17.3" Fullhd, 300 nits, 144hz (€999, before Black Friday lowest price was €1280) https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1851518/acer-nitro-5-an517-55-501q/specificaties/
  2. Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Pro i5-12500h, 16 GB DDR5 4800, 512GB, 16" 2.5k, 350 nits, 100%sRGB, 60hz (€1002, before Black Friday €1179): https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1814374/lenovo-ideapad-5-pro-16iah7-82sk0036mh/specificaties/
Pro's for the Acer:
  • RTX3060 (maybe more future proof then without a GPU?)
  • 144Hz (better for office jobs?
  • Bigger screen
  • Memory upgrade to 32GB possible
Cons:
  • Maybe poor build quality, at least that's what I hear sometimes for the Acer notebooks
  • Only full hd
  • 300 nits
  • Maybe lower sRGB?
  • Very heavy laptop especially with the charger (I don't take it away from home often so not a big deal)
Pro's Lenovo:
  • Build quality usually much better from what I read
  • 2,5k
  • 350 nits (is that a big difference)?
  • DDR5
  • Probably more silent, that's also very important to me
  • Nice design
  • Lightweight
  • 1080p IR webcam
Cons:
  • No GPU
  • Soldered memory
  • 60 Hz
  • Smaller screen but for me this is okay
Or should I maybe just go for the more traditional Lenovo Pro 5 16" with a 120Hz 2,5k 350 nits screen but then with a Ryzen 7 5800H CPU? It has no GPU also, soldered DDR4 memory, 720p webcam, etc?
I think that would be around €100-€150 cheaper with a Black Friday deal (to come): https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1784502/lenovo-ideapad-5-pro-16ach6-82l500vhmh/specificaties/

Hope you can give me your opinions.

Thanks! 🙏

Very different systems, you can't really compare them. One is a gaming system, the other is a system designed for business use. If you will be playing games on the laptop, the Acer is best. For any standard office task, Lenovo should be better mostly due to better reliability history with the brand.

Yes I know they're very different but I think I'll go with the Lenovo. I think the build quality is a bit better and except the refresh rate the screen is better in every aspect I think. I have an extra discount for the Lenovo now, so I can buy it for €960 with 3 year guarantee instead of 2 years

Hi,

I'm looking for a new laptop for home/office use. I'll mostly do surfing, office related stuff, some minor photo editing, watching Netflix, maybe playing some old games but I don't think I have time for that with a 1,5 year old son and a baby on the way haha.

I hope I can use the laptop for another 8 years or so.

No I've come across 2 laptops that are off my interest:
1) Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro with a Ryzen 7 5800H, 16GB DDR4 3200, 350 nits 2.5k screen, 120Hz: https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1814374/lenovo-ideapad-5-pro-16iah7-82sk0036mh/specificaties/
Price: €850,- with a 2 year guarantee
2) Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Pro with a Intel i5-12500H CPU, 16GB DDR5 4800, 350 nits 2.5k screen but only 60Hz: https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1814374/lenovo-ideapad-5-pro-16iah7-82sk0036mh/specificaties/
Price: €960 with 3 year guarantee.

What laptop would you guys choose for my tasks? Is the i5-12500H CPU and integrated GPU better then the Ryzen 7 5800H? Would DDR5 make a big difference? Or would the 120 Hz make the biggest difference?

The 1st option has a minor webcam and no Thunderbolt , otherwise I don't think there are more (big) differences then I've noted above.

Hopefully you guys can help me to make the decision, thanks!
