DP45SG Audio doing my head in!

I've got an intel DP45SG motherboard and it's known to have audio issues. I cannot use the recommended drivers that are included (HIDT) because their fault by design so I've been using generic realtek drivers. The sound has been working perfectly since last night but when I went to turn on my computer this morning there was no sound. Sometimes when playing a song I will get brief bleeps of the music and when semi-placing the audio jack into the slot it plays very quitely or briefly. What happened? How can I fix this?

I'm running on windows 7 64 bit with logitech z2300 speakers. Any ideas? :S

If the board has issues -- might disabling the inbuilt sound and getting a sound card be the simplest answer ?
