I'm having issues installing the current batch of Windows updates on my Surface Pro II. It gets to 75% complete, hangs for 1/2 hr or so, reboots, then fails with a ":( Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart screen etc (Driver_power_state_failure)"

Following the restart it gets to 75% again, hangs for half and hour, restarts, BSODs again, then does a couple of undo cycles, finally getting back to where we started (or at least it did the first time)

The PC is a fairly new Surface Pro II. It had had an Alcatel 4G LTE dongle plugged into it prior to my first attempt to update. I've uninstalled the drivers, and other than that it has developer type tools installed (VS2013, azure tools, sql etc) but no alien drivers.

Its currently on its second reboot after uninstalling the dongle drivers and re-trying the updates, so I'm expecting a second BSOD but I thought I'd post here for ideas while I wait, as it will be a couple of hours before it finishes failing.

I tried to install the security update (KB2961908) first but this fails too.
