Qualify self: I have been a pro in the live audio business for a many years. Somewhat retired. A few years back I had gotten a D32xd and have gotten great results from it but I am also a creator of sounds and the labor of transfer from console to computer is overwhelming and time consuming with artists that just want to come in and do it all themselves. So to make things a lot easier I am trying to configure my computer... Dual core 2.4ghz running windows7 with 4 gig of 1066mem.... I have had the Audigy2Z in my computer and it never really worked properly which part had to do with raid configuration and the other had to do with memory configuration and other things. Now that I am getting to the bottom of the problems I am looking for the best solution. The Emu1820 or the 1212/1616. Which has the best for the money and what I want to get out of it? I want 7.1surround and the 1212/1616 only is capable of 5.1... needed for the video editing I do... However can the 1212/1616 be coupled with another sound card or itself to be able to configure a 7.1 surround? The overall quality that each one is capable of? I could go with the VS-700r at around $1795.00 but that is out of range in the price catagory at this time.

I just sold a 1820M and it was a kick-ass unit. I think the 1616M has basically taken over for it. Currently I am using a 0404 and am quite pleased with it. You may have a hard time finding the 1820 since they no longer market it. Given that, then I would go with the 1616M...hands down. E-Mu has earned itself a pretty good reputation in producing high-quality audio for a fair price.
