Bottom line, it needs to run CAD and other programs. Would like to work on photographs. Gaming is not that important, but it might happen. Am looking at the Lenovo y50 any other suggestions?

Look for a good gaming laptop ... the CAD requirements are similar ... fast CPU, decent graphics card and good HDD space to store the CAD output and modules required. If anything go for a gaming laptop with a big HDD, and tons of RAM.
