I thought that initially, too, but I just can't resist fiddling around
with things, so I applied it to my 300D and never looked back. It works
great and some of the extra functions see a lot of use, especially flash
exposure compensation.
General consensus that I've gathered from here, r.p.d, and various
websites is that nobody's had a problem with it yet (if anyone has, they
haven't made any noise about it), and those that have sent their cameras
in for warranty service haven't had any issues with Canon - at most they
find the camera re-flashed to the stock code when it's returned.
Personally, I say if you can use the additional functions, go for it.
