EOS Download problems

I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT, downloaded the software on my laptop with Vista and the old computer used to just begin to download the pictures immediately, but with the laptop the eos screen comes up and nothing happens???? Please help!!

Check Windows, My Computer, with the camera connected to see if the camera has appeared as a removable drive and just drag and drop the picture files to wherever you want them on the hard drive (My Pictures or a folder newly created by you would seem logical).
