Solved! EQ function on Sony STR DE-575 receiver

My sony str-de575 has an EQ setting for
"front speaker bass adjustment". There
are settings for level (+/- 6dB in 1 dB steps)
and frequency (99Hz to 1.0kHz in 21 steps).
What I don't understand is how these work
together. Can anyone help? Can I select a level
for each of the frequency settings (which as I recall,
is how a stand-alone equalizer would work). Suppose
I want to minimize bass as far as possible:
how do I do this?

Level is just how loud the speaker is.

The frequency is how present that frequency is in the overall sound.

Pretty simple to see how it works, change them and see what happens to the sound.
