Every when should I scan with AVG?

My hard disk apparently doesn't have a good status, and I was wondering will scanning my laptop with AVG frequently further affect the hard disk? If not, every when should I scan with AVG? I'm on the laptop every day for a few hours, forums, videos, etc. and I don't usually download stuff.

once a week to ever other week should be fine. most of the newer avg do a full scan then do smaller scans of new files only and only do a full scan when asked or set up to do one.

It has to affect the HDD because that's where the files are. As far as damaging the HDD if a scan is run every week, no.
