External Mic not working

I have a ASUS laptop that has a combined headphone and microphone audio jack, I can get the headphones to work fine. But I can't get the Mic to even register on my computer. My headphones/Mic are the SADES SA-708. I am running Windows 8.1

first things first... did u go into ctl panel/sounds and look at the recording tab and set the properties and try to test the mic?

The mic wont even show up in that tab for me to set the properties or test it.
