Extra speaker for right rear surround?

I would like to run an extra speaker on the right rear surround output to get better coverage for the listening area. Can I do this with a standard speaker selector to match impedance? I'm using 8 ohm ceiling speakers. Amp is Pioneer VSX-32 (110 watts per channel), and they have advised against wiring in series due to impedance issue. Is there a better way to do it? Thanks

Since your receiver is 7.1 channel you could try setting it to 6.1 and set the center positioned rear speaker as the surround back and the other two as side surrounds. Depending on the placement of the speakers this might be the best solution.
Rather than use a impedance matching speaker selector I would use an impedance matching volume control (these are designed for in wall). That would allow you to maintain impedance and adjust the volume of one of the right surrounds independently.
Other wise you can hook it in series with the right rear speaker. This would raise the impedance which can't hurt the receiver. You will need to re-balance the speaker volumes in all these cases.

Thanks very much for your response. I had thought about the 6.1 solution but wanted to save the surround back connects for use as Zone 2 (patio) speakers. Given my physical setup, it sounds like adding the extra speaker in series is the simplest solution. Would that result in the wattage being split to the two speakers? I assume this would be ample power for a rear surround channel.
