Facebook videos running slowly on google chrome only

So, here is a strange problem that cropped up two days ago. For some reason, videos on facebook run very slowly and stop a lot whenever I play them on the chrome browser and while my laptop is unplugged. If my laptop is plugged in, facebook videos play fine on google chrome. Videos also play fine if they are not facebook videos (i.e. youtube videos) and if I play these facebook videos on internet explorer while my laptop is unplugged, they run fine as well.

So, what could cause this very specific problem? I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling chrome and that didn't fix anything. Is there some weird virus doing this, or is the problem much less severe?
