I have a EFs 18-55mm lens and it is not compatible with my Rebel G Eos film camera. Can I use an M42 mount lens to turn the EFs into a compatible lens for the camera?

A M42 mount lens cannot be used to convert your EFs 18-55mm lens into a compatible one for your Rebel G Eos film camera. This is because the EFs lens is designed for Canon's EOS mount, which has electronic contacts allowing communication and autofocus/aperture control between the lens and the camera. Conversely, the M42 mount does not have any electronic contacts and thus, even with an adapter, would not allow autofocus nor aperture control of the EFs lens with your Rebel G Eos camera.
