I don't understand why they didn't use bittorrent as an alternative distribution method. Download numbers should of still been fairly easy to track (as long as too many people didn't use distributed tracking servers) and the load would of been distributed between millions of downloaders.

I was having problems getting to the download area yesterday and waited a couple of hours before trying again. Then I was able to get both windows and linux versions. I'd be curious to what the final number might be. Be cool if it reaches 10 million downloads.

Well right now its at just about 9.3 million, but were at almost 6 hours after the official download day deadline. I just wonder how they're going to track the downloads from all of the different sources. I also wonder how many people downloaded it using bittorrent and if they had any way of tracking those.

"secondly, they did have bittorrent mirrors i used isohunt's twice."

It was available on bittorrent but those downloads did not count toward the record because those torrent downloads where not done by mozilla.
