First Set of High Quality Headphones

I was looking into purchasing a set of good quality headphones.

My price range is around $300, and ive been looking at the ath m50x.

Should I get these, or go for something like the Hifiman 400s?

$300 is enough to buy you some great stuff. First thing you need to do though is decide on whether your use scenario benefits from closed back isolation or if you can use open back sets. If open, HD518 and ATH-AD500X lines are usually recommended if you want gaming audio, though there are too many good headphones in that price range to narrow it down unless you know what you'll be listening to.

I prefer not to have a "gaming audio" set of headphones. I have never owned an open set of headphones, and I would use them in my house, as I have a set of in-ears. So yes, I would like set of open headphones.
