Bought a Fortec star DVB receiver on Jan 2004
and found RF connector was borken around the end of April.
Contact Fortec and David McGrath of Fortec asked to me to contact the
seller (it is very weird, I thought normally first 30 days by seller
and the rest of warranty period by the manufacturer) Then the seller
kept telling me Fortec have never sent the part replacement to him so
I have had the broken RF connector for almost 2 months.

I wonder if Fortec has any service and warranty on their product ?

Anyone got similiar experience ?

My Fortec developed a problem with the firmware. I e-mailed fortec about it
and received no response from them. Mine was out of warranty, and I can
live with the symptoms, but it would have been nice to get a response.

My feeling (maybe someone who knows more about the industry could weigh in),
is this stuff is such fringe technology, that the manufacturers aren't
really set up to handle service problems well. I think to some extent you
just take a risk when you buy that everything turns out OK.

The worst experience I have had so far to buy a new or used product
from a U.S. or Canada dealer or manufacturer.

KuSat in Ottawa has the worse service, and don't expect any help from the
manufacturers either. both Pansat and Fortec are too busy with sales to help
with after support

Making a good purchase isn't only about finding the best price! Dealers are
not only here to only make money with the distribution. When shopping, find
a dealer who provides not only presale support, but also enquire about post
sale support. Dealers are the first line of support for products.

If you need service on your vehicle you contact the local dealer, not the
manufacturer!

There are two solutions for your problem:

1- Use the A/V outputs on the back of the receiver and connect it to
the TV directly bypassing the RF outputs (see back panel picture here
http://sadoun.com/Sat/Products/Fortec-Star/Receivers/Lifetime-Ultra-Blind-Search.htm
)

2- If you have to use the RF connection (in case your TV is old and
does not have A/V RCA inputs) then buy an RF modulator ( see item 7
here http://sadoun.com/Sat/Order/Accessories.htm) and connect it
between your receiver and TV.

The cost of option #2 above is probably less than shipping the
receiver to the mfg for warrantee service.

Good luck

alternatively, connect the AV outputs to a VCR, then use the RF output from
the VCR to the TV.

Especially if you want mono sound and the LOUSIEST quality video!!!!

*because the satellite receiver has to combine the signal onto a channel 3
or 4 carrier, then at the other end the the VCR must strip it off, then put it
back on,before it is separated at the TV!

Use S-video (or component if using IT 912S),or composite, but NOT RF!!!

No educated person would use RF when a better connection available.
