Full factory restore toshiba L305

I I am trying to restore my toshiba L305 laptop to out of the box new. I tried all the tips, ( hold down 0, f8, etc) and it just keeps saying safe mode or start windows normally. What do I do? I also do not have the disks nor the toshiba recovery wizard option.

Unfortunately, without the discs there is probably not much you can do. At this point your options are to contact Toshiba to order replacement recovery media, purchase a new copy of Windows, or install Linux (free).

Are you sure your laptop still has the recovery partition on the hard drive? The manual does indeed say hold 0 (zero) upon a cold boot. If that's not working, then you probably will need to take Napoleon's advice.

Evidently it's not there anymore because I have tried everything. I have read. Where can I get Linux?

http/www.ubuntu.com/ is a good place to start. I assume your Windows install is hosed at this point? If so you have nothing to lose by trying it out, but it is a bit different.

No it still works actually. It is just full of spyware that I can't get rid of. I am actually buying a new one soon and I was going to try to repurpose this one for my boyfriend's daughter. I guess I will just leave it alone. Lol

Try using this to clean it up:

That should get the worst of it, then this should clean up the stragglers:

Ultimately though, if you're on XP you're at risk for getting malware infections.

Ubuntu is fine. I'd recommend Linux Mint as well (with codecs).
