FX FIGHTER ever planned for the SNES?

Somehow I seem to remember thinking that FX Fighter would be ported to
the SNES. Maybe this was just a false assumption on my part because of
Nintendo's "FX chip". Can anyone confirm or deny?

No, it did indeed start development as a SNES title (or perhaps both)
before ending up as a PC game. Seems like it was under an alternate
title for a while early on, too, but I can't recall what.

Needless to say, the SNES version wasn't released, but dig around in
EGM and whatnot from the time and you can find pics of that version.

I saw a very early demo for it at CES, but it was cancelled before the end
of the show because GTI (or whoever it was) was getting out of games/selling
their games division or something like that. It probably had an FX chip in
it to get that look.

Thats correct, its workiong title back then was 'Fighting Polygon' or
something along the lines of that.

The company was GTE Entertainment, a subsidiary of GTE Corporation -
better known at the time as a national telephone company (who I
happened to be working for at the time). FX Fighters was the only game
they had planned for a home console. Otherwise they had a few PC titles
(not all of them games), most of which were terrible.

Well, I did find on reference to the company as "GTE Interactive", but
I'm quite sure that is incorrect. BTW, GTE was only the distributor, I
think the developer was actually Argonaut. I think.

Okay. I thought they were going by the name GT Interactive at the time, but
I wasn't sure. (I think they even changed their name a few times in the 6
months or so that they seemed to be serious about releasing games.)
