Hi, I'm looking for a 'gaming' laptop for around 1500-2300 AU (Australian dollars). I don't have much experience with laptops - can you play games on them for hours (say 8 hours) without any risk of overheating? I already have a desktop which I use for these purposes but am in need of a portable device. Thanks.

1_What is your budget? $1500-2300 AU

2_What is the size of the notebook that you are considering? 15+ inches, more the better obviously

3_What screen resolution do you want? 1280x1024

4_Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop? No

5_How much battery life do you need? Not really an issue, I can always find an outlet

6_Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)? Yes I would. I'd like something that can play Fallout 3 on medium+ settings, and WoW.

7_What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo / Video editing, surfing the web, playing music, watching movies, Etc.) Just a bit of programming and video watching.

8_How much storage (H.D.D Capacity) do you need? 300 gig+

10_How long do you want to keep your laptop? Not an issue

12_Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons. I don't have much experience

13_What country do you live in? Australia

Thats quite a large budget considering you only want to play fallout3 on medium settings.....

Because of this large budget i would suggest these manufacturers:
Sager - NP2096 or NP5793 or NP5796
Alienware/Dell - mx15 or mx17
Zepto - Nox A15

If you can deal with a 15.4 incher instead of the 17" go for the GX620 exact same specs just smaller screen, save yourself around $400 by doing so aswell from http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/p/msi-gx620-core2duo-t8600-2-4ghz-4g-320g-hdd-512m-9600gt-gaming-laptop/ or if you want to save yourself a even more the Gx630 can be found on amazon for 800 us ($1200 AUD) 15.4 Puma CPU and a 250g. All models are very similar and have quiet a large difference in price too so get what ever suits.

@flk : if you get that laptop get it with a 7200rpm HDD, otherwise that will be a bottleneck for your system
