Solved! Gaming Laptop, at most $700.

Hello,

My friend is wanting a laptop for gaming and college and I was wondering what would be the best one for no more than $700, and $500-$600 is preferred. He is wanting to play the upcoming game Star Wars The Old Republic and pretty much most games on the market so please any help on this would be appreciated.

Umm. you cannot get a gaming laptop for 500-600. you can get a laptop that will play some games on low.

Basically... the Number one thing to look for is viideo card. Should be looking for a minimum of Geforce 230m or 320m (very similar cards)

the best choice for you is dell n5010 (ati 5470 graphic) price:500-550 and you can play last games on medium quality or above!

You should check out the Alienware M11x. It is one of the least expensive, powerful gaming laptops out there ($799). It will be able to handle most games very well and is portable, due to its small size. With $500-600 and even $700, you will be hard pressed to find a laptop to play games well.

While for that price range you should be able to play MMOs like WoW or Star Wars The Old Republic, the settings are going to have to be turned down since you will probably be playing on integrated graphics.

As lowrider said, you're going to need to find a laptop with an entry level or mid range level discrete graphics to see some improved gaming performance.

The alienware M11x suggested by Isabella is a decent gaming laptop but if the laptop's intended use is to be for all around college life, in other words its the only computer the person is gonna have, then I would not recommend it cause it really focuses on portable gaming. It's got an 11in screen, which is a bit small for extended computer sessions, and does not come with a cd drive built in meaning you would need an external drive.

Consider some of the Acer units as they offer a nice deal for the pricepoint. I would consider this: http/www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115793 or the i5 iteration of the Timeline X series as you get a 1 Gig Mobility Radeon HD 5650 and a relatively well built unit for under 1000 bucks. Supposedly, I hear that the i3 version of the Timeline X tends to throttle down the CPU under stress, and this will effect your gaming a bit, but it'll handle most games just fine as well.
