Hi guys.

Im looking for a reasonbly priced gaming laptop to replace my desktop.
The situation is that i don't have the space for my desktop anymore, so im on the lookout for a laptop to replace it.

I use my desktop mainly for gaming and so, im looking for a gaming laptop at about 1200-1400$.

I want a laptop that is at least as powerful as my desktop.

The spec on my desktop is:

I5-3570
8gb DDR3-1666mhz
128gb SSD + 500gb HDD
Sapphire Radeon RX480 Nitro OC 8gb

I was thinking about a laptop with GTX 1060 but, is the GTX1060 as powerful in laptops as in the desktop version? And will a 7gen CPU be a lot more powerful than my 3570 if i go for the GTX1050Ti ?

Thanks

I'd go on the assumption that a 1050Ti would be able to reach higher settings in an exclusive few games that use more than 3GB VRAM, and that you feel the need to crank em upthat high.

I'd go 1060, the added power would win me over.

Might I ask what your reason is for a laptop? I usually find that the best solution is a desktop, with a weaker laptop for essential work on the go. Your laptop's battery won't die as fast, and you'll have a hella powerful desktop at home, better than what a gaming laptop offers with less fuss.

A 1060M vs a 1060 is decently significant ; http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1060-Mobile-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1060-6GB/m164336vs3639

A 7th gen mobile i5 would probably be beaten by a desktop one. Since Sandy Bridge, Intel has been adding less than 10% yearly performance improvements.

I think your desktop is fine, if you're trying to replace it I wouldn't. This is a personal statement, as I never felt the need to do anything hardware demanding away from home.

I whould love to keep my desktop, but in about 3-4month i don't have any space for it anymore. Im going to sit at the dinnertable to game, and it is a bit of crazy to set up/ take down the desktop every time i've done gaming, or the family need to eat:)

I see...

In your case, the 1060M probably won't be that bad, for processors look for an i5 (higher GHz the better, but you're probably gonna want a quad core for recent games) and 16 GB RAM is preferable but if you gotta, 8 GB isn't terrible.

Should i go for the 1060 (which i can see is 3gb) or should in go for the 1050Ti 4gb. It seems the 1060 is a lot faster, but the 1 extra Vram whould be nice thou.

The 8gb ram is proberbly where i end, since the 16gb laptops is a bit pricy, and i guess i can upgrade later?

Laptops are hard to upgrade, so make sure you triple check what you plan on.

I'd favor the raw performance of the 1060 over the lower FPS but better settings of a 1050Ti.

I know it's hard to upgrade a laptop, but ram seems to be a fairly easy process, remember my old HP ProBook just had a plate you uncrew and then click the ram in the laptop.

So speed/higher FPS or higher settings/lover FPS is the difference from 1060/50Ti ?
