I think you should go for dell. The service offered by them has improved a lot especially in recent years.
Many of my friends use it.
Also ensure you extend your warranty by atleast 2 years. It reduces the hassles of overblown repair bills when something goes wrong. :)
Generally for us , we use it most during initial years especially for gaming. Slowly we regress towards using it for multimedia purposes.

Let's get an idea of the config you can get for that budget, or what you can get , because in market especially as india's same model no for a laptop can mein different configuration !!!
CPU: i5 4th gen
RAM: 6-8GB
HDD - 1TB
GPU: AMD - 8700M series & Nvidia - 740M,840M(rebranded),820M with 2GB GDDR3 (always :( )
Screen : 1366x768 - Vendors just don't care about a better res. screen . If you get better you are in luck.
OS: Bundled Windows 8.1 (Without OS you can bargain for better H/W)
You should have mentioned a your reqirements, also your screen size preferences.
So I'll go with 15.6" with normal usage and occasional gaming.
So based on that here's a list of laptops based on your pref. along with mine:

HP : 45k - http://www.snapdeal.com/product/hp-pavilion-15p097tx-laptop-4th/1122938347 (decent GPU, but low RAM)
HP: 44k- http://www.snapdeal.com/product/hp-15r022tx-notebook-j6m27pa-4th/1975435341

Dell: 45k - http://www.flipkart.com/dell-inspiron-3542-notebook-4th-gen-ci5-4gb-1tb-win8-1-2gb-graph/p/itmdybygm4fgpvcx?q=Dell+Inspiron+3542+Notebook+%284th+Gen+Ci5%2F+4GB%2F+1TB%2F+Win8.1%2F+2GB+Graph%29&as=on&as-show=on&otracker=start&as-pos=p_2_840&pid=COMDYBYD2NAUMWNY (Good GPU, but low RAM)

Sorry about asus but fitting these requirements none can be possibly recommended .

Hope you like it

I am thinking about Dell Inspiron 3542. But I have some concerns about the durability of the laptop.
My last laptop was Lenovo g505s and it was a huge let down, so weak and fragile. I had too many problems with lenovo (their service was poor too). Can you comment on Dell laptops and their customer services?

I have been using Samsung NP550P5C for more than 2 years now and I can say it with confidence about the above mentioned usage scenario.
Hope my suggestion helps.

buy this one HP envy k-101tx with GeForce GTX 850m 4GB for Rs.57,000
you are getting X50m series, the GTX series , 4gb memory .......... simply unbeatable at this price point ......
...
or at 45k you can consider hp pavillion i5 with GT 840m
