After doing a bios update from windows, my laptop no longer finds any bootable devices including DVD and USB, although the bios will come up with F2 and the HDD is recognized there. I want to reinstall the bios using the FN/ESC trick, but cannot find any bios files other than the .exe from the Gateway website. Any ideas?

Thank you,

The "FN/ESC trick" sounds like something else that is supposed to be a shortcut but results in more problems than when you started. Why do you want to re-install the bios? Why don't you want to use the recommended bios? Just do a bios reset if its needed.

Is there a 'factory reset' function available? Can the Recovery disk help?

Are the devices shown and working in Device manager?

And so it failed I gather.

Can you - do a bios reset?

Do a factory reset?

Use a recovery disk?

Can you do a cmos reset?

If not, all you can do then is to try to re-install the bios. Without access to the hdd, you should be able to do it by making the usb your boot device and have the gateway bios on it.
