I chatted with a Google Support representative who dug into this story and he could not confirm any such free offering of Gemini Live being rolled out. If you scour Google's own support documents and public announcements, you will not find any mention of GL being offered for free. According to https://support.google.com/gemini/answer/15274899, under "What you need" you'll see "Gemini Advanced" as a requirement. Follow that link for more details and it leads to this sentence; "When you subscribe to the plan, you’ll need to select or provide a form of payment." This is NOT FREE.
