Solved! Get surround sound from iptv

Can I get surround sound when watching IPTV. Sound presently coming from tv speakers. Tv is connected to a Sony system. No sound when IPTV and tv are on. Surround sound comes on tv when IPTV is shut. Sony speakers are connected by red and white cables. Sony is connected to tv by hdmi cable. There is a audio out switch on tv not used. IPTV has Av and rc connectors not used, and a SPDIF CONNECTER. IPTV connected by hdmi to tv

If the Sony is connected to the TV HDMI-ARC input, they both supports ARC, and you turn on ARC in the TV menu then you should get sound with the Sony for all the sources connected to the TV. You may also have to turn the TV speakers off. Check the TV manual for details.
If they don't both support ARC then you will need to add a connection from the TV audio output to the Sony and turn that output on in the TV menu.
If the TV audio output doesn't match the type of input on the Sony you will need the appropriate active converter.
