I'm looking to get a new laptop for school.
I'm willing to spend anywhere from $500 to about $900 USD.
Most of the time I should have my laptop plugged in when I'm inside, but if not, I expect around 4 hours of being away from a wall with a full battery.

This laptop will also be used for Maya, Photoshop, and other adobe like products for animation art/design.
I will be using multi-boot occasionally, running versions of Linux and other OS aside from Windows 7 or 10.
I will be running Oracle VM VirtualBox, just a note.
I play Team Fortress 2, Garry's Mod, and small indie games like Super Meat Boy.

I'm looking for about 500 gigs of space, unless I can switch out the SSD for a better one.
At lest an i5 processor or better, and enough RAM to comfortably run Adobe products, and Team Fortress 2 on the lowest setting.

Brands I am familiar with are Asus, Dell, HP, Toshiba, and Lenovo. I'm looking for the best I can get for my money.

Here is one search I have used, and am considering from Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006740%2050055877%2050001146%2050010772%2050001315%2050001186%2050010418%2050057046%2050118564%2050034050%2050044837%2050044840%2050001259%2050001312%204021%204022%20600004803%20600004804%20600165638%204814%20600488313%20600003982%20600003988%204115%204114%20&IsNodeId=1

Any feedback is appreciated.

In the search that you have provided, the MSI GE72 looks like an excellent choice, because of its heavy-duty i7 CPU - critical to your VM usage, rendering and productivity applications - as well as its excellent GTX 960M graphics card, which will ensure that modern games are very much playable. The laptop also does achieve 3-4 hours of battery life without gaming. It's also quite light for a 17.3" laptop, at around 2.7kg.
