I am using a sony 30hs420 widescreen tv with a samsung sir-t451
digital receiver.
I am running into a problem with a lot of programming only being
viewable with a complete picture frame around it (side bars AND
letterboxing) The sony seems to lock into full screen when it is
receiving a digital feed from the sir-t451 not letting me zoom. And
the only channels that the receiver lets me zoom on are the SD ones.
When I tune to a channel that sends HD signal the receiver removes the
zoom option. Most current example is syndicated west wing seems to be
only viewable with picture frame black bars.

I am really stuck, is there a way to remedy this so I can have the
option to zoom on any channel?

Although the TV is 16:0, for non 16:9, programs, set the screen type to 4:3
on the SIRT-451 reciever and then zoom it. If this does not work, I will
check my settings and let you know.

Many HDTV receivers, CATV boxes, OTA Tuners, have the ability to change the
aspect ratio of the display being sent to the display device. Confirming the
auto aspect settings on these devices, and on the display can affect the
functions relative to your quest.

Not really. Sounds like a problem with your Samsung and the way it's
receiving its signals. I have the LG LST-4200A with a new Sony and I
can do just about anything I want. West Wing is always is in Wide
Screen format (16:9).

Check out your setup menus for both the T-451 & 30HS420....

I have this 'same' units: T-451 & 34HS510 Sony HDTV....

You are never able to Zoom a Pure HD or upconverted HD Picture!!!

You can always Zoom a Digital SD Picture & any Analog 4:3 Picture.

I can dig out & post both my units Setups If you need more
help........
