Good laptop or good configuration?

Hello every body.
There are some laptop models with good configuration and good prices; dell 5110, hp probook and some acer models i.e.
On the other hand there are other notebooks which [look to] have the same configuration but higher prices like vaio and some lenovo models. Since I'm on a limited budget, I have to choose between one of these categories. What would you do if you were in my shoes?
Please consider that a high performance is required in my case, because the machine is going to be a virtual studio for songwriting and audio production. I also have a very powerful desktop pc for HD record tasks in my studio.
All ideas would be appreciated.

get whatever is cheapest with the hardware you need. the "extra" features and brand name that the pricier options offer often times will be useless to an average user

Really? Nice! So did I think. But some customers preferred a lower config notebook with higher class brand like vaio. But now, I rather to think like you.
Thanks.
