Google Play Store Shows My Account Already Registered After Factory Reset

If you have rooted your device, you may have some issues with the Google Play Store. You may also experience this issue if you have frequently installed and uninstalled the apps that require root privileges on a rooted Android device.

When you keep installing and uninstalling the root oriented apps on your rooted Android device regularly, Google Play Store’s IP address becomes persistent in the ‘hosts’ file of the device, and the address is not removed even when the Android device is reset to the factory defaults.

In order to rectify the issue, you must open the ‘hosts’ file in the read/write mode, and manually mark the IP address as a comment or remove the entry from the file altogether. Needless to say, in order to open the ‘hosts’ file, you must have root access to your device, which further means that your device must be rooted and you must have SuperUser privileges on it.

Once all the above mentioned prerequisites are in place, here is how you can resolve the said problem:

    ■Turn on your Android device by pressing the power button. (Samsung Galaxy Tab N8000 in this demonstration.)
    ■Assuming that you have already rooted your tab, download and install any File Explorer app on your device. (Root Explorer in this demonstration.)
    ■Once installed, locate and click the Root Explorer icon to launch the app.

    ■On the opened interface, tap etc to open the folder.

    ■Once the etc window appears, tap the Mount R/W option to set it to Mount as r/w.
    ■Once this is done, locate and tap the hosts file.

    ■From the Options box, tap and hold (long tap) the Open in Text Editor option.

    ■Once the hosts file opens up, locate and tap the second IP address (other than 127.0.0.1 Localhost), and type ‘#’ in the beginning of the address. Optionally you can also delete the entire IP address and the associated URL to remove the entry altogether.
    Note: You can ignore the 127.0.0.1 Localhost IP address as it has nothing to do with the issue.
    Note: Putting the ‘#’ sign in the beginning of the IP address will mark it as comment, and the entry will be no longer read by the device.

    ■Once done, tap the More icon (icon with the three vertical dots) from the top-right corner.
    ■Finally, tap Save and Exit from the displayed list to save the changes and quit the app.

    ■Restart your Android device before you retry associating your Google account with Google Play Store.
