This widely reported story seems to be very confused. The original story was the the Pixel 5a was cancelled. It was then reported that Google issued a statement that the Pixel 5a 5G is not cancelled and will be released about the same time of this year the Pixel 4a was in 2020 but only in the U.S. and Japan. In 2020 Google introduced three new phones the Pixel 4a on August 20, the Pixel 4a 5G on October 15 and the Pixel 5 also on October 15. It has been widely reported but never confirmed that a Pixel 5a (not a 5a 5G) would be released in June. To me the Google statement seems to confirm the original story that the 5a is cancelled and that the first new phone in 2021 will be a Pixel 5a 5G released in August, but only in the U.S. and Japan.
