To start with I can not see anything wrong with google dominating the internet search market, since people have chosen to use google's search engine...Thus yahoo's & microsoft's bing have gone nowhere...Also microsoft has got some interest in yahoo's search engine & maybe that is why yahoo have not gone anywhere...

How does this work under the "monopoly" pretext when there are tons of other search engines out there?
Google is just popular... thats all.

It's tough being the king.....

so if you do some thing so good few ppl can compete you will get scolled for it? often companys with no adversary gets greedy and unproductive and that will open up for new companys to get frue.

Also google was just starting to climb ever so fast at the same time as microsoft was getting checked out for porn or illegal porn search through their own search engine & maybe also that is why google done so well, because they did not pander too much to those investigations...

lol google wants to take control over airline fare data now. i cant see the problem here other than microsoft wanting to simply get in the way of google and making themselves look bad. Googles above statements are true.

More and more people know about bing but google still rolls of the tongue. The biggest problem I've found with yahoo is the amount of crap on the page. Bing on the other hand I love for the back ground picture but tbh I donno, i still feel google gives me what I want (search for) more often than Bing. Yes bing mirrors google for the first 5 or so results but after than bings results get very obscure. Might give bing another shot tho I always type google without thinking. Bing just need better marketing.

Heard this the other day from a co-worker. Google is so popular that when people talk about searching the internet they say, "let's google it". You don't hear people saying let's Yahoo it.

Unless google has bought out any competition i dont see how they can be had for monopolisation of search engines???

I like google and its not like i have to pay google for every search etc??

One of my favourite frases at the moment when someone asks me something that they dont know is:

" Have you googled that, google IS your friend ) "

I wish I could direct you to the bile poured out against Microsoft

It's not the fact that it is the most widely used because competitors are unfairly held back with pre-selected settings at install etc.

Sure people can use another search engine if they want, it's as easy as going to Bing's website - but isn't that exactly the same as saying you can download Firefox if you don't like IE?

One law for all or its not a law at all.

I don't care if they monopolize the world with Google products, it's like the biggest, friendliest company out there!

If Google became a ISP I would be with them in a snap, because they have the money to start a massive fibre network.

Hell, they should be the ones funding the NBN in Australia right now so I can jump into the fibre crowd.

Oh how quickly people forget. I guess nobody actually read the article and simply commented after reading the first paragraph of the article.

First off, this has nothing to do with Microsoft. MS didn't file a claim or do anything to start an investigation, so why are idiots bringing up Bing and Yahoo? The only reason MS is being mentioned is because they have had their run-ins with the FTC in the past, so they are being compared to Google in that regard.

Google has "settled" previous complaints with the FTC in the past, and has even backed off plans to conduct certain business plans because of warnings from the FTC. Clearly, this isn't the first time they've run afoul of the FTC.

Oh, and many years ago when Google was young they often complained to the FTC about MS and their unfair business practices.

Oh, and how many programs have you ever installed that also wanted to install the Google toolbar? I always found that funny as it seems almost every single program/utility I've ever downloaded/used asked me to install Google. Is it because the developers of the program actually like Google? Is it because Google is giving them hosting for their downloads? Or maybe Google is paying them to (like Intel was doing to "convince" companies to use their products instead of AMD)?

How can I use Bing, if MS Bing does not even use IP Location? Allow me to explain, everytime I used Bing to locate shops or business opportunities it would mostly lead me to brazilians results, that would be ok if I was in Brasil, I´m in Portugal, which is in Europe not South America.

Google on the other hand understands the difference, and rarely presents me with brazilians results.

"The only comment Google has at the moment is that the internet provides plenty of competition."
They are right, it´s not their fault that others provide crappy service. Besides they want to improve their search result (and profits) and services by aquiring that are very specific, the competiotion still exists and it´s up to them to improve, it´s not like Google is stopping/preventing any1 from getting better.

I think this is a bad comparison, but I see what you mean.
The difference was that Google is giving users a choice and Software Companies a choice/revenue, while Intel was also threatening PC makers, and thus harming the consumers and the market.

Well, after you called those people out for not reading... maybe you should take your own advise. http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/google-may-be-targeted-by-ftc-antitrust-investigation/ This, and many other sites have reported the news properly (unlike the missing details in this report that conveinently left out the part that microsoft filed it). Anyways, this pretty much puts your entire statement NULL AND VOID, so i'm not even going to entertain you with a response to the rest of the non-sense.

An example of (god forbid) bad google:
losing money with youtube, but keeping video ads prices low => watch competitors struggle/die.

Tell me how good it is for the end customer.

Wow, maybe you should re-read the article AND peoples comments! Other people are bringing up Bing and Yahoo in agreement to Google's comment(listed in this article) about there being other options out there.

I agree with them, Google shouldn't be attacked as being a monopoly when there are alternatives out there which are extremely easy to get to...especially since "bing" and "yahoo" are shorter in letters then "google!" As for your comments about Google toolbar... Google isn't specifically paying developers just to put the toolbar in with their installations. The developers may be getting a cut for including the toolbar, but purely because the developers are pursuing it.

It's sad that Google has had to back off plans in the past to keep the FTC happy. You portray that as Google doing something wrong, when perhaps it may be the government stepping into the companies business when the government should be minding their own. Especially given the current state of the economy, maybe the government should be listening and following some of their examples instead of them telling them what to do... after all, these companies are making money while the government continues to spend money they don't have. Sorry, I'm not trying to get politics involved, I'm just saying that perhaps the government should back off and fix their issues and make things right before telling others how to do things right.
