Hi would like to get everyone's opinion on GPU choice for Clevo p150em.

Question:
"Would like to know if there are NOTICABLE differences btw the 680m vs 675mx if I play the games (BF3, SimCity, SCII) on ultra? If no difference, then how about 680m vs 670mx?"

Def not the 7970 options cause I had it on my m17xr4 and I got problems from day 1 so I ended up returning it. Anyways...

I am leaning towards 680m. Cause tests wise it is def faster, but I am worried that the MX version of 680 or the 700 series will come out or get popular sometime this year, then I would end up paying for something that is about to get replaced at a high price.

My other school of thought is that I am already spending 2K+ on this why save the money and not just get the best out there. But I will not get the best just because. If it has no significant improvements over the models then that would save me a few bucks for other things.

The 680M will not easily be replaced, and you'll future proofed. Heck, even Crysis 3 can run on high to ultra settings with a 680M (although it may need slightly overclocked, but then it's incredibly efficient in this area as well). Everyone is asking the question: "Should I wait?"

There will ALWAYS be something right around the corner, and I can honestly say the 680M will run demanding games past, present, and future with flying colors for quite awhile.

Its a 300$ i would spend elsewhere.

Keep it and buy a new laptop sooner...

the midrange gpu in 2 generations will be better than the fastest high end gpu right now.

Except if they just rebrand again :(

If you live with mom and dad and money isnt an issue... go with the big dog.

Well thanks for the advice. I consider myself a bargain hunter that have very high standards. At least I am like that on desktops. The usual question that I ask the computer store guys is not, what is the best XXX how much is it? Rather, What dropped the most in price recently? And how does this compare to the model that is one or two higher? Of course I will also look at the item I am buying to see if it fits my needs and that ppl have good comments on. I am definitely not the type that will buy the latest and greatest, because I think it is just a big waste of money. How about getting a 675mx and in two years will upgrade to 675ms SLI . Hmm.... might be a bit harder for laptops... I definitely do that for desktops. I've been building my own computer since I was 12 (the AT/XT days) and that is 20 years ago. I usually do big upgrades every two years. Some how for laptops I don't feel the confidence I have for desktops.

Anyways, maybe I will just flip a coin LOL...

PS I wish I lived with my parents.

Hi I am wondering what you mean by 4GB vram being pointless?

What matters more in gaming when it comes to the video card are things like clocks (shader clocks, core clock, memory clock), memory bandwidth, CUDA cores, OpenGL, etc. vRAM = video RAM (or random access memory). 4 GB is excessive for games. More vRAM is good if you're doing editing work that entails a lot of rendering and adding textures; you need more vRAM for that, but not as much for games. Generally, 1-2 GB of GDDR5 is sufficient even for high demanding games.
