GTX 970 or 980 ti?

Hey, I'm currently looking to build my first pc and I'm between these two cards. I skipped the 980 because if I am going to pay roughly $200 more for the 980 i might as well go all out for the 980 ti. My question is, "Is the 980 ti worth the jump if I game at 1080p". I might go to 4k in a year or 2 but by then there will be new Nvidia cards. So for my build should I go 970 or 980 ti. I just don't want to spend the extra cash if it won't be very noticeable.

If in the budget the 980TI will keep you happier longer, and never know when you might fall into a deal on a good monitor for higher resolution

Thank you, I think I will just go with the 970 after finding all the other parts for my build, adding the 980ti would just make my build more expensive than I would like for now. I agree that the 980ti has the longevity, but it's just too much for me at the moment. Thanks again!
