Handbrake help

Hi,
I downloaded handbrake because it is meant to be good, i plan on ripping some dvd's...anyway i have some .mp4 movies that i would like to convert to .avi
Can Handbrake do this? and if it can how?

get the previous version handbrabe 0.9.3 its has many output option.. on the right top corner they had option for downloading older versions
