I (rather stupidly - I think) connected my win vista 32 bit to my newest PC and unplugged my other hard drive which runs win 7 ultimate 64 bit.
Q. will the hard drive that has win vista 32 bit on it have altered the bios or anything else on my latest PC (win 7 64 bit).
I cant get my newest PC to fire up past the opening screen that says 'Intel'. I have tried to select the Drive for the hard disk (f10) - Nothing, I have also tried to select the 'run from CD' with a disk that is an OEM (I think that's what you call it) with a Dell Windows 7 Ultimate with a COA - again Nothing.
Q. How do I get 'My Documents/Pictures/Music of my WD 640 gig Sata running Windows 7, this is quite important as I haven't 'Backed everything up'
Can anybody please, please help me as I have the big 'C' and I will loose some of my contacts from around the world along with documents I held concerning 'our condition'
Many thanks
Marcus

thanks i7baby, it's a relief to know that it wont have made any alterations to the bios.

The windows 7 hdd is back in but it wont fire-up, even with a dell disc (win 7 Ultimate) (OEM) in - do you know whats up?

Hi again i7Baby,
I think the tower PC was a home made item, it came with 'Windows 7' but I kept on getting messages from 'Microsoft' that it was not a genuine copy. I looked for an 'COA' but there wasn't one, I also got an error message (I cant remember what) and the PC went into some kind of fix but it hung at 23%. So I made an offer on a disc with a very brief description of why I needed it (again eBay) which was excepted but the gentleman e-mailed me back and said he would give me a 'Dell disc Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with a new COA' from STAR PRODUCTS (very kind of them) FOC.

To answer your question then: Yes - Windows 7 was on the HDD but the new disc I have is NOT the same (as the original win 7 was not genuine).
As for your question "Does it post - bios loads" - I don't even know what you mean, Sorry but I'm not that 'tech savvy'
I really hope this helps you find out whats wrong.
Just incase I bought again from eBay yesterday a 'SERIAL ATA SATA I II IDE HARD DRIVE to USB 2.0 CABLE ADAPTER CONVERTER for PC' eBay item number:191204848170 in the hope that it might help me rescue 'My Documents/Pictures/Music - what do you think.............
Many thanks
Marcus

Thanks again i7Baby,
The monitor comes on but only as far as the 'Excel' sign. It also comes up with the sign 'Bios F2' and 'Boot F10' but I don't seem to be able to change the order of the 'boot sequence' it seems to be going to the Graphics card which is a 'ATI Radeon Gigabyte HD 4870 and the Motherboard is an 'Intel Desktop Board apparently (taken from the Bios readings) a DG41RQ Ver: AAE54511-203. I have NO M/B instructions (although I should be able to download them)
The Bios ver is: RQG4110H-86A.0013.2009
I have gone thru Tom's checklist
Q. will a new Hard drive sort thing out.
Many thanks for your time and effort

Dear i7Baby,
I'v followed your link from yesterday and re-started last night, I have followed it to the letter, checked and re-checked everything, time now is 11 45am, but still no luck. It still wont fire up past the 'Intel' screen with the options for F2 (bios) and F10 (boot). I have tried to select the hard-drive and the CD as first boot but it seems to always go to the Graphics card (Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 4870) I have inserted my new Dell Windows 7 Ultimate (new to machine, but it was already running it) still no luck.
Does this mean:
I have a corrupt motherboard? or my original hard-drive is is damaged or possibly both.
Q. Should I buy a Samsung Spinpoint F3 1 TB, 1TB (HD103SJ) Hard Drive. Would this read my new Windows 7 Ultimate Sp1
I have already bought a SERIAL ATA SATA I II IDE HARD DRIVE to USB 2.0 CABLE ADAPTER CONVERTER for PC or LAPTOP in the hope that I can retrieve my Documents/Pictures/Music was this a good idea?
Many thanks for all you help
Marcus

Good morning i7Baby,
I have just seen your post (Can you post your build? - list every component in your pc by make and model) Welllllllllllllll,
I really don't know how to do this (daft I suppose - but I am 60) and I must remember to check this site incase you answer, I thought I would receive an e-mail to let me know, but I didn't.
Many Thanks for all your efforts
Marcus
