I bought ReplayTV about a year ago and did some research by looking at
boxes in Comp USA. I liked the idea that I could buy the box cand get
free program information (or get it with the price added in) as
advertised on the boxes. So when i got holiday money I sent my order
in to Amazon. To muy surprise the box i received had a slip of paper
that said i had to pay extra. I was dissapointed that i could not get
to amyone who was willing to comprise on the position so I subscribed
to the monhly fee. I had hoped someone would give me a month or so
free since my purchase had been based on the information from my
research. No such luck.

It worked fine for a week or so, but was then unable to connect by
telephone except when I forced the connection. I suspected that the
line was not good in the house I was renting and expected to move in
July. So I terminated my service, got an email from their tech
services stating that I was disconnected and thought that would be it.

Their message was:

"Tue, 27 Apr 2004 11:21:38 -0500

Dear Gary:

Thank you for contacting Replay. We deactivated your account
Regards-

However they still charged me every month and sent an email "Thanks
for your order..." and i would answer end say "Please, I did not
order...."

I just got my money back and it may be a sad but familiar story and
you are wondering if there is a question here.

I am now in my new apartment and wondering if I want to set up again
with ReplayTV. What are my alternatives? can I use the machine with
out the service? should I dump the machine and go with another device
and / or service? Or is there a person in ReplayTV that can get me a
good connectiona nd explain how to use the service in the future? I
don't dislike doing business with ReplayTV, I just can not get them to
answer. I avoid the telephone lines since they are not there on the
weekend and hard to get during the week. But I can stay on hold for a
while if it is worth it.

What to do? And who to talk to?

(I have no doubt that many have seen this question enough times to be
totally sick of it. If so, I am sorry and you can feel free to flame
at me. That is part of the deal and I will be as polite as I can
manage in return.)

Weren't you surprised it was hundreds cheaper all of a sudden??

Your problem connecting was most likely an old software build that had
bugs in the modem initialization. There were elaborate work arounds to
get the unit to dial in and update to a newer build. After that you
would have no more problems.

You can't use it without service. If you call Replay they will
reactivate it, but there is a $25 fee.

If you plan on multiple units, nothing compares to Replay. In a single
stand alone Tivo is almost as good. If you go with cable company
supplied products, they're pretty lame.

What number are you calling, they've changed. Go to the web site and
check the numbers.

They just had a huge sale of old models and phone lines are congested.

Call Replay and re-activate.
