We just bought a new emerson 55" tv, and I ordered a Panasonic home theatre soundbar model number - sc- htb170 , but in trying to install it to the tv , there's only one hdm1 plug , and that's where the cable goes in, and also there is no audio output on the tv......with the same kind of plug as the home theatre soundbar so we need to know our options ? I read about hdm1 switcher boxes ? Would that remedy the situation? Or what other options could you suggest ?

Solution
If your only source on the TV is your cable box (which is connected via HDMI to the TV) then the cable box may have an optical audio output that you can connect directly to the soundbar. You may have to set the correct output in a cable box menu to get it working properly.
If you have more than one HDMI source then you could get an HDMI switcher that will extract the audio and connect it to the soundbar via optical.
