Solved! Having trouble controlling soundbar through tv

I got a new tv yesterday, there was an an ex-display Samsung HW-J6001 soundbar there for buttons so I grabbed it too... I have the soundbar hooked up, but can't control it from my TV remote.

Using the device connector on the LG tv i've got sound coming out of it. But the the device connector system won't let me connect a remote to it to control it (optical cable and bluetooth works, but bluetooth constantly unsyncs so I want to connect it optically). Is there something I'm missing? I think it's the type of remote I'm using, it's the bog standard LG one, not their magic remote, I think I need a universal remote but don't know enough about all this to be sure... Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If both pieces talk HDMI, sometimes they will control each over via CEC, otherwise you have to control the SB separately and yup, if u want one-clicker solution, looking for a (better) universal.

A Logitech Harmony remote will do the trick. If you get one with the hub you can use app or Alexa voice control too.
