HD video not playing on Samsung dvd using usb

I have got Samsung HT E330K and trying to play hd movies using usb but it just won't play saying format not supported. Both audio and codec
I converted format to avi divx but noted the quality becomes so low
Don't know how to get video and audio out of it

When you convert to avi, you have the option of changing the video bitrate. Obviously the higher bitrate, the better video quality. I'd start with 2000 and go from there.
