HDD Died, Installing OS in new HDD

My HDD recently died. I made a backup but it isnt really necessary as there wasnt much on the computer. I bought a new hdd and plugged it in and put the OS install discs in.

When i boot my computer i get nothing on the monitor and the cpu fan and psu seem to be the only things running. I just need to install the OS on this new drive so I can use my desktop. Any help is appreciated!

Is the old HDD disconnected or removed?
What told you the original HDD died? It might have been something else.

the old hdd is connected yes, have tried both connected and disconnected. the hard drive makes the noticeable clicking noise and the last time i booted with just the old drive it clicked nonstop and would not start up.

Remove the old HDD, reinstall the OS on the new drive. The system is still trying to read the old damaged drive.

i disconnected the old drive and i still dont get anything on the monitor. My garphics card fan isnt spinning and neither is the case fan. i plugged my vga into the motherboard as the graphics card doesnt appear to be in use

would getting a new mobo processor make this process easier? i have been in need of one and may be able to buy it this weekend
