HDMI connection to home theatre Audio registers 5.1 but plays 2.1

I connected my dell laptop to my yamaha rx v2600 receiver with an hdmi cord. ON one of my laptops the system works perfectly and plays the audio correctly through all of the channels. However when i connect the laptop i intend to use, with the sound settings configured to 5.1, only the left and right speakers play. The pc detects the other channels, but does not play audio through them. The receiver does not detect inputs for the non stereo channels. How would I fix this?

Well, I fixed my own problem. There was a multi channel button on the reciever. Upon clicking the button all channels worked perfectly. This was not required for intel gpu's, however required for all other gpu's. It was tested on 5 different laptops.
