hdmi to tv goes on and off

the tv display goes on and off when using hdmi connected to my computer. the computer continues to show but the tv display goes black and it displays a box showing the hdmi connection.

it is probably a bad hdmi cable try switching it with another one

if you think the thunderbolt cable is the problem swap it out also
