Hdmi TV setup

I am getting a black screen after I connect an HDMI cable between a Pansonsonic (TC-L42U30) VIEra and a verizion setup box dvr. The TV has 3 HDMI ports and the setup has one. The interface works with green,blue and red cables using the component ports but no success using the HDMI cable.

I also used an other new cable (1.4) forrest) same results complete black screen. The TV has limited componentand composite setups.

Does anyone have any suggestions, since I do want to use the hdmi ports for future usage of equipment such as DVD, stero sound radio,etc.

Hi everyone,
I asked Verizion to send me a new setup box and now it works. It appears the HDMI port on the first box was not working. Verizion did tell me to use the component ports and did work but it required 5 wires rather than 1. The picture quality is outstanding for either the component or the HDMI setup. The main advantage is using less ports. Thank you for your input.
