Headset Adapter Problems

Just got a new dell laptop, with the single audio/mic jack. Hav an adapter from startech...it works BUT when i play my fav game (CS GO), everyones voice and some of the noises seem a bit echoey...any ideas why? Been trying to figure this out for hours

List the product you bought, it's possible the problem is the poles. You want 4 pole male to 4 pole male, example: http/www.amazon.com/Valley-4-Pole-3-5mm-Right-Stereo/dp/B00DX6PXEQ/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1454144522&sr=8-7&keywords=4+pole+to+4+pole+3.5mm

Notice the lines on each connector, does yours match? It depends on your entire setup, so I can't tell you right away what the problem is, but trying different cables should be your go to, possibly even 4 pole to 3 pole male.

headset is steelseries a couple years old.
It sounds the same even when I am plugging only the audio jack of the headset in, and when i plug anything in a little window comes up asking what it is (headset, speakers, headset w/mic, etc)
Music sounds fine though.

I think i figured it out. Found a dell audio thinger and it had "enhancements" on...shut that off seemed to fix.
