Hey.

So, first off, the title is not unique - there are plenty of similar threads but none of them help, so there is yet another one.
Here's my problem:
I've got a laptop (asus R556LB) with a combo jack (there is an icon for headphones as well as microphone engraved right next to the single jack port). I've recently bought a headset with 4-pin jack, but when I plug it in, my laptop doesn't see the microphone. Sounds goes through headphones, but laptop doesn't seem to think it's an external device whatsoever. I'm saying laptop, because the same problem is both on windows and linux.
So, here's what I've tried:
-Rebooting
-Countless different drivers (both newest and older ones, native for windows and straight from realtek site)
-Updating windows
-Digging around Realtek HD Manager
-Different system (windows 10 doesn't recognize headset at all. Linux however, sees that headphones are plugged in, but doesn't recognize this is in fact a headset with mic included)

Microphone itself is working fine: I've tested it on my smartphone.

I'm completely out of ideas and so is the web, it seems. Hope someone might prove mi wrong.
