Headset/Microphone Combo Jack work with...?

I recently purchased a Lenovo laptop, and I was expecting to be able to plug my standard 3.5 mm headphones into the laptop. However, it appears the laptop has the Headset/Mic Combo jack, with which I have never had experience. I tried plugging my headphones into the combo jack, and it would not plug in all the way.
Do I need to buy some sort of adapter to plug my headphones into my laptop?
There does not appear to be any other spot to plug in the headphones on the laptop except for something that says S/P Diff, which does not seem to function with my headphones either.

I think that's what you need, but I would assume the manual for your laptop would tell you this kind of thing. You don't mention the model #.

It's the Lenovo Y50 Touch laptop. All the manuals are digitally on the laptop, and I didn't see much about it
