Hello! I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to audio, so I could use some help.

I'm looking for speakers for my computer that will give me nice volume and quality, in the price range of $250-300. So far I've come up with two different ideas; a receiver and bookshelf speakers, or a complete home-audio set.

For bookshelf speakers, I've heard some very good things about the Klipsch B-20's: http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-Synergy-B-20-5-25-Inch-Bookshelf/dp/B003XRD9UA. I'm sure these would be good for music, but would gaming hurt them? I don't care that much about the quality of the audio for gaming, as long as I can hear everything. But will the loud bass sounds of tank firing hurt the speakers at all? Also, wouldn't I need a receiver to power these? How expensive would that be?

For a complete home-audio set, I've looked at the Logitech Z906's: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Surround-Speaker-System-980-000467/dp/B004M18O60/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1375138589&sr=1-1&keywords=logitech+z906. They seem great because they don't make me have to buy a receiver (right?) and are relatively simple. They are just a bit over my price range, but I can make that happen. Are these a good entry-level set for music?

Thanks for any help or further suggestions!

If you want to go higher quality, these speakers are a steal. http://www.amazon.com/Cambridge-Sou...375198355&sr=1-19&keywords=Bookshelf+Speakers With the 8" woofer and a sealed cabinet will give you clean bass. So those tank shots will sound very good.

DO some searches around for reviews and you will see most people are very happy with them. And then all you need is an amp to power them, you won't need a receiver. Although the amp might cost as much as a cheap receiver, depending on the amp and/or receiver. Used equipment is your friend. Even a cheap receiver at a thrift store, 20-30.00 will do the trick to start out with.

If you are starting out and want some quality sound you have to start building up a system. For 300.00, you aren't probably going to get much quality in a computer speaker system or inexpensive HT setup. It doesn't mean you have to spend a bunch of money either.

Used is a great option, find a used/new stereo shop in town, where you can get some advice and actually listen before you buy!! Weird concept I know but it is very important.

Audio in gaming isn't that great but if music is important, good speakers are the first key. You should always buy the best you can afford(best sounding speakers for you) and you may use them for many years. The speakers have to reproduce the sound and have the toughest job compared to any of the electronics.

Anyways, that is a start and some things to think about. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask us.

Happy listening, the Prisoner...
